| Details of 1911 Proprietor | Hopefully I am right in saying that the actual proprietor of this shop was Epsom Bootmaker George James Beams (died 1919), whose brother, John Thomas, was managing the Ewell branch in 1901. John Thomas died in 1904 and I presume that George then employed other people to manage it.
Ernest Scutt was born c.1881 in Ferring, Sussex; he married Edith Weller (c.1877-1950?) in 1905. He seems to have moved to Guildford by 1918 and probably died in 1939. The widowed Mrs Ada Jane Rogers, who did secretarial work, lodged here in 1911. |
| Details of building, where known | Numbers 27 and 29 were once the site of The Bull’s Head Inn, which was demolished c.1865 to make way for a Congregational Church. More recently the site housed HSBC.
