Epsom and Ewell Local and Family History Centre

The Centre was set up to promote interest in the study of the buildings, families, organisations and topography of Epsom, Ewell and the surrounding area. It is a partnership between Surrey County Council Libraries, Bourne Hall Museum, The Epsom and Ewell History and Archaeology Society and the Surrey History Centre, and is staffed by volunteers.
The Centre occupies a dedicated area in Ewell Library whose history stock has been augmented with census records, parish registers, large scale maps, street directories, electoral registers, photographs and other important materials to offer an extensive range of resources. In addition the Centre can call upon the resources of the Surrey History Centre, Woking.
The volunteers can refer enquirers to suitable local experts when appropriate and put them in touch with a Research Service which may charge an hourly rate. When the Centre is not staffed, a written enquiry form can be completed and given to the library staff for volunteers to follow up later. (N.B. Please ensure that you provide as much information as possible when making an enquiry)
The Centre also produces regular and interesting newsletters called Lives & Times. Click here for the recent editions.
The Centre volunteers are currently working on a wide variety of tasks including:
-
- Checking catalogues and reordering the collection
- General administrative work
- Organising and running events
- Producing displays
- Re-cataloguing and scanning slides and photographs
- Research
More help is always needed and as they are a nice bunch of people to work with why not consider volunteering. To find out more just contact the Centre.
