The Rembrandt Virtual Tour – Circle
We are grateful to the family of the late Derek Phillips for their permission to use much of the text and images from the website that was set up and run by him. Derek was very interested in local history and his community and a short biography can be viewed on the introductory page.
The Circle in 1938

The Circle originally seated around 400 patrons. It was lit by two chandelier fittings over the rear circle and the first of 3 lighting troughs over the front stalls. Also see Lighting Schemes.

This shows the auditorium in 1989 under house light conditions.
During conversion to twin cinemas the circle was extended by 5 rows and a drop wall constructed. See Twinning for more details on the changes.

To preserve his work and allow ready access to it, it was decided to merge his local history pages into the Epsom and Ewell History Explorer website.
