EXTRAORDINARY ATTEMPT AT SUICIDE.

On, the arrival at Epsom on Thursday morning of the eleven o’clock train from Portsmouth the attention of the officials was called to a man sitting in the corner of a carriage with a wound in his head. He was unconcernedly smoking a pipe, and by his side was a revolver, with one barrel. discharged.

He was lifted out and conveyed to the Cottage Hospital, and subsequently to Guy’s. He gave his name as Lewis J. Paice, a well-known name in amateur cricket circles throughout Surrey.

When removed he said it would have been a good thing if he had completed the job, as it would have paid his debts.
