War Memorials – Epsom Golf Club

Mounted on a wall in the entrance hall of Epsom Golf Club is a wooden memorial plaque to the eleven members of the club who lost their lives in the Great War.

The Epsom Advertiser of 15 October 1920 contained the following report:

GOLFERS’ MEMORIAL. –A large oak plaque in the hall of the Epsom Golf Club House, containing the names of eleven members who were killed in the war was unveiled on Saturday by Mr. E.W. Garrett, president of the club. The memorial was designed by Mr. W. Hatchard Smith, and is beautifully carved, the names being encircled by a wreath of laurels with the monogram of the club and the dates 1914-18 above and the words ‘In Memoriam’ below.

After WW2, an addition was made to the plaque to commemorate the three club members who were killed in that conflict.
