Eastmans was a large chain, originally founded by American cattleman T C Eastman, and its significance was that it imported refrigerated meat from the Americas. It was eventually acquired by Vestey Brothers, who also owned the Dewhurst chain. This was one of the very few chain businesses in Epsom and Ewell at the time, Home & Colonial,the International Tea Stores and Holland & Barrett being others. Thomas Foulger Born c.1850 Epsom; married 1882 Jane Robbins (died 1885, age 26) and then in 1900 married Florence Rose Barnes (c.1872-1956, then living Grove Road). Child – Doris Vera (1902 Epsom-1992), unmarried. Son of a coachman from Suffolk, who died in Epsom 1858; Mrs Foulger then started a shop. Died 1936, then living in Station Road. |
