Children – Alfred Charles 1885 Ewell-1958, fishmonger, married Laura Tugwell, lived West Hill; Emma Ellen Cecilia (Nellie) c.1888 Ewell-1959, married Willie Ford Jutsum; Arthur Norris Peirce 1890 Peckham/East Dulwich-1961, married Minnie Jemima Rymills; Dorothy/Maud Edith born 1892 Horsham. Alfred’s father, Charles (died 1904), was a fishmonger in Epsom High Street but Alfred moved about before returning, as can be seen from the birthplaces of his children. Marshall’s shop later moved across the road and was still there when the Odeon Cinema was built next door in the 1930s: it did a roaring trade in fish and chips for the picturegoers (apparently the chips were renowned and the potatoes were home-grown, fertilised by effluent from Ewell Sewage Farm). Died 1936, then living at Worple Road. |
