155 – 163 High Street, Epsom

Occupiers in 1911	Thomas Hersey Motor and cycle works
Details of 1911 Proprietors	I am not sure that there was a 155 (there is not one now), but in any event Mr Hersey’s premises stretched from Waterloo House round into South Street and they mark the last building(s) on the south side of High Street West. This was Mr Hersey’s proper business, as opposed to the hairdressing establishment he had at Number 141, where you will find his biographical information. I am assuming that the gentleman in the doorway of the first photo is Mr Hersey and, if it is, one can clearly see why a dapper young man probably known as ‘Monsieur Rudolph’ (albeit that he was born in Tottenham) was employed to do the hair.
