Details of 1911 Proprietor	The Langlands family had been estate agents and auctioneers in Epsom for many years and that particular business seems to have started with Lawrence Langlands (died 1867), who was a carpenter and joiner in the town as early as 1839. By 1851 he was an auctioneer and builder. Sons Charles and Augustus also went into the family businesses: Augustus lived in the High Street and Charles in South Street. Augustus had retired by 1881, aged 49, and he died in 1886, followed by Charles in 1889. Charles’s son, Gerald, then took over, and he was head of the firm in 1911. Gerald died in 1924 and had two sons, Charles John Lawrence (1891-1981) and Cecil Walter (1893-1982). The occupant of the residential part of these premises in 1911 was Miss Emily Eliza Langlands (born 1868), daughter of Augustus. Her mother, Eliza, had also been there until she died in 1907.
