Details of 1911 Proprietor Born in Pinchbeck, Lincolnshire c.1864; in 1891 he married Florence Laming (c.1866-1943).

Children (both born Epsom) – Alfred Laming (1892-1970); Dorothy Annie (1897-1977), married Alexander Longmuir.

Son of a draper and grocer; died 24 February 1949, then living Weybridge.

Mr Wells lived across the road at Brighton House, over his other shop and the accommodation at Number 99 was inhabited by a housekeeper and six assorted drapers, milliners and dressmakers, presumably his staff. According to a 1909 directory Mr Wells outfitted in one shop and draped in the other – and, yes, we do know which was which. Brighton House dealt with ladies’ and children’s outfitting and baby linen, so the rest was at 101.
